GITEGA, November 29th (ABP) – Residents of Gishuha village, Giheta district in Gitega province (political capital and center of the country) as well as visitors, are delighted with the development work on the tourist site housing the thermal waters based in Gishuha village.
The work is being carried out by Giheta district, in collaboration with IFAD, through the PIPARV-B project. This idea was born after noting that this place welcomes many visitors from Gitega province and surrounding provinces. This work is being carried out with the aim of making this place more beautiful in order to attract more tourists and therefore bring in funds that will go into the district coffers, according to the administrator of Giheta district, Mrs. Micheline Ninahaza.
She also indicated that to make this place more accessible, the district administration, in collaboration with FIDA, have built a road that connects the national road n°15 (Gitega -Ngozi) and the site.
Apart from those works, an irrigation channel has also been built for 19 hectares of fields.
Infrastructure still needs to be built, including changing rooms, hotels and restaurants, so that visitors can find everything they need. She called on businesspeople to come and invest there, especially since the Giheta district has four tourist sites with thermal waters.
The population of Gishuha village and its surroundings warmly thanks the district administration and FIDA for the development they have brought to that village.
Nyandwi Michel, one of the residents met on site, says that visitors are increasing day by day, compared to the period before the rehabilitation of the road and the development of the site. It has become the second tourist site after the Gishora drummers’ shrine, he said.
Minani Jacqueline, a woman of three children, who sells ripe bananas in that locality, informs that the customer base has increased. She invites other women from that village to take advantage of that opportunity by teaming up, in order to set up an income-generating project. This will contribute to the implementation of the national vision “Burundi, emerging country by 2040 and developed country in 2060”.
Note that the population indicates that thermal waters have curative properties and are favorable to the irrigation of plants.
