BURURI, October 29th (ABP) – Conservation for Community Change, (3 C), proceeded on Friday, October 25, 2024, in Mirango village, Gitsiro County of Vyanda district with the distribution of 1000 avocado plants to the people of that locality, a check on the site by ABP has revealed.
The Gitsiro County is located in the natural region of Imbo where the population, mainly children, suffer from malnutrition due to an unbalanced diet. It is for that reason that the head of the project called 3C, Mr. Léonidas Nzigiyimpa indicated that avocados are very good fruits for people’s health, but also generate money for households to self-develop.
He also specified that the project follows the government’s lead in multiplying avocado plants to all households in the country. The villages of the Gitsiro County including Kigutu, Kirungu, Mirango, Mushiha are on a very mountainous terrain, and need to be protected, according to Mr. Nzigiyimpa. A mountain range called Ganza on the Mirango hill with an area of 815 hectares, which is home to different animal and plant species, is now under the protection of the youth from the Gitsiro County, Mr. Nzigiyimpa pointed out.
He added that a nursery of 75,000 native tree seedlings is established just at the bottom of the mountain range. These trees will be distributed to the population of the Gitsiro County in December, to plant them on the high mountains.
As a challenge, he indicated that the Gitsiro County is impassable. The only road leading to the county’s headquarters is in poor condition. He asked the provincial administration to look for a machine to rehabilitate that road, and promised that the project will take care of fuel and other related costs. Thus, tourists will have access to that site of Ganza.
For his part, the chief of staff in the office of the governor of Bururi province, Mr. Juvent Ndayikeza, recalled the need for a well-maintained road infrastructure which is a source of household income. He invited the local administration to mobilize the population of that locality for the rehabilitation of the roadway which leads to their county. It is worth noting that the 3 C project plans to distribute at least 2,500 avocado plants by the end of 2024.
