December 12th (AMSP/CGTN) – – China has pledged to continue its contribution to the United Nations (UN) Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) in 2025, said a Chinese envoy on Tuesday.

At the CERF High-level Pledging Event for 2025, Geng Shuang, China’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, confirmed that the CERF’s role in providing rescue, saving lives, and alleviating suffering has been increasingly important as the continuing geographical conflicts and frequent natural disasters have further deteriorated global humanitarian situation and led to huger demands for humanitarian aid.

Geng said that China has always supported the UN in playing a coordinating role in international humanitarian relief and the work of the CERF.

Since 2007, China has made annual voluntary contribution to the CERF budget. The donations for 2024 have been allocated and contributions to the CERF will continue to be made in 2025, said Geng.

Geng said that China has long provided humanitarian assistance to countries in need through bilateral channels and in various forms.

He said that in the future, China will continue to follow the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind, and work together with the international community to support and assist countries and peoples in need to cope with humanitarian crises and overcome humanitarian difficulties.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in a video speech that as a fund for all and by all, the CERF has deployed over 9 billion U.S. dollars to countries and regions in past 20 years.

He called on all countries to further increase donations in order to reach the goal of 20 billion U.S. dollars due to the sharp rise of humanitarian needs.
