Taiyuan (TDI), December 7th (AMSP/CGTN) – – China successfully launched a new group of satellites into orbit on Thursday, marking the 550th flight mission of the Long March carrier rocket series.
The launch, carried out at 12:41 p.m. Beijing time, took place at the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in northern Shanxi Province.
A modified Long March-6 carrier rocket was used to deploy the third batch of satellites for the Spacesail Constellation, a network aimed at enhancing space-based technologies.
The satellites entered their designated orbits shortly after liftoff, the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) confirmed.
The latest deployment of the Spacesail Constellation is part of China’s broader push to strengthen its space-based communication, Earth observation, and data collection capabilities.
Once operational, the constellation is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing smart city infrastructure, environmental monitoring, and disaster management.
The Long March-6 rocket used in the mission is a key player in China’s new generation of space vehicles, boasting improved efficiency and environmental compatibility.
This launch underscores the growing sophistication of China’s space program, which continues to achieve regular milestones.
The successful launch marks a significant milestone in China’s aerospace history, being the 550th mission for the Long March series, which has been in operation since 1970.
The series is the backbone of China’s space exploration efforts, with rockets varying in design and capability to handle diverse payloads.
China has ramped up its space program in recent years, aiming to rival established players like the United States and Russia.
From lunar exploration missions to the development of its own space station, Beijing’s ambitions in space continue to grow.
The successful deployment of the satellites is expected to provide enhanced services for industries requiring high-speed connectivity and precise data.
Officials have hinted at further satellite launches to bolster the constellation and strengthen China’s position as a leader in space technology.
With its latest success, China reaffirms its commitment to technological innovation and its long-term vision for establishing a robust presence in space.
