CANKUZO, September 20th (ABP) – Buffalo leaving the Ruvubu park are a source of insecurity for the surrounding people.

That was said on Tuesday 17 September 2024 by the administrator of the Kigamba commune, Mrs Anitha Nibogora. That was during a security meeting held by the provincial governor, Boniface Banyiyezako, for communal administrators and heads of decentralised services, according to local sources.

The communal administrator of Kigamba expressed his concern after one of the park rangers was admitted to hospital after being injured by a buffalo.

According to Kigamba administration officials, a total of 7 buffalo have left the national park.

Those animals are also causing enormous damage to farmers, as they graze on people’s crops.

Mrs. Nibogora also spoke of the fear caused by those wild animals, pointing out that they recently attacked women on their way to market.

The Governor of Cankuzo province has recommended close collaboration between the police and those responsible for environmental protection, to ensure that the animals are returned to the park as soon as possible.
