Prime Minister has received in audience EU Ambassador to Burundi

BUJUMBURA, October 4th (ABP) – Burundi Prime Minister Gervais Ndirakobuca received in audience, on Thursday, October 3, 2024, the Ambassador Head of Delegation of the European Union (EU) Elisabetta Pietrobon, to discuss the strengthening of bilateral cooperation established between Burundi and the EU since 1978.

Pietrobon indicated that many topics of common interest between the EU and Burundi were discussed during the audience. She mentioned agriculture, transport, electricity but also political dialogue which is of paramount importance, according to Pietrobon.

As for Moïse Nkurunziza, the spokesperson at the Prime Minister’s office, the two high-ranking figures also discussed good governance, trade, and private sector development. The Prime Minister appreciated the cooperative ties between Burundi and the European Union, hoping that these relations would be fortified.

They also discussed regional security, Nkurunziza said, where Ambassador Pietrobon stressed that the EU is concerned about regional security, before specifying that a special envoy for the security of the Great Lakes countries was recently appointed and could visit Burundi soon, she promised.
