BUJUMBURA, September 18th (ABP) – The Sunni Muslim Community of Burundi (COSUBU), through Burundian students in Turkey, distributed a school kit worth around 5 million Fbu to more than 100 pupils from deprived families in the Buyenzi area of Bujumbura town hall on Saturday 14 September. In his speech, Saidi Kigabo Marijani, secretary of COSUBU, said that that activity aimed to relieve vulnerable families.
Athumani Ntakirutimana, president of the Burundian Students’ Association in Turkey and special adviser to the COSUBU representative, said that the idea of collecting that aid came to him because he himself grew up in a poor, orphaned family, and sometimes ran out of school supplies.
Reiterating his words, Athumani stressed that Burundian students in Turkey were ready to support the government in its vision for 2040-2060, especially in the education sector for underprivileged children. Mrs Fatu Kwizera, a member of the Association of Burundian Women Sinutes (AFSIBU), took the opportunity to thank COSUBU for thinking of their children and asked the beneficiaries to make good use of the school kit.
20 pupils from the Gatumba zone, 25 from the Maramvya zone and more than 30 pupils from the Buterere 1 and 2 zones also benefited from the school equipment.
