BUJUMBURA, December 24th (ABP) – Where there is violence against women and girls, there is no development in families or in the country, disclosed the cultural advisor to the governor of Bujumbura province, Symphorien Banciriminsi, on Friday, December 20, 2024, in Benga County, Isare commune in Bujumbura province (western Burundi), during the closing ceremony of the 16-day activism campaign against violence to women.

In his welcoming speech, the administrator of the commune, Gilbert Niyonkuru, said that the choice of the Benga County is not a simple coincidence because violence against women and girls is a sad reality, urging the men who are the perpetrators to pull themselves together and break with this practice which he described as retrograde. In this county, women are beaten, others do not have the right to look at the family wealth, still others are traumatized by their husbands and some girls are impregnated by their educators and other people, ABP learned without knowing the figures. The cultural advisor to the governor of Bujumbura province urged the population of the said county to team up in cooperatives and associations for self-development. He warned that, from now on, those who are responsible for violence against women and girls will be hit by the rigor of the law because they hinder the development of the country since without the development of girls and women, the achievement of the 2040-2060 vision is an imaginary concept, he said.
