Burundi inaugurated the Ujirani Mwema building in Kigoma, Tanzania

MAKAMBA, December 23rd (ABP) – Burundi inaugurated on Saturday, December 14, 2024, Ujirani Mwema House in Kigoma, Tanzania, a three-story building that will house the office of the Consulate General of Burundi and the staff residence, a check on the site by ABP has revealed. After the ribbon cutting and a guided tour, the permanent secretary at the ministry of foreign affairs and development cooperation, Ferdinand Bashikako, indicated that this building cost the State of Burundi more or less 2 billion Burundi francs. He indicated that Burundi is determined to provide its consular and diplomatic representations with offices and residences, an eloquent sign that it is implementing its vision of a developed Burundi by 2060.

The Secretary General of CNDD-FDD, Révérien Ndikuriyo and other personalities including governors from the six Burundian provinces bordering Tanzania, who had gone to Kigoma to celebrate 20 years of the anniversary of ujirani Mwema (Good Neighborliness) were present in the inauguration ceremonies of the Consulate General Office in Kigoma.

The Ujirani Mwema House was built in the Mji Mwema neighborhood in the Kigoma municipality, not far from the former Consulate General office.

The speakers of the day expressed satisfaction with the step taken in the framework of peace and security at the borders between the two countries, which is the very foundation of Ujirani Mwema. Today, what remains is the acceleration of development projects in the two cross-border regions, they indicated.

The ceremonies were marked by a long parade of young people from Makamba province, and a football match between the Makamba team and that of Kigoma, which ended with a score of 2 goals to 1, in favor of the Makamba team.

The winning team received an envelope of 3 million Tanzanian shillings while the Kigoma team received 2 million Tanzanian shillings.

They concluded the ceremonies by exchanging gifts and sharing drinks.
