BEIJING, February 13th (AMSP/CGTN) – – China’s Xu Mengtao clinched two gold medals and one silver in the Aerials Individual and Group events at the Asian Winter Games. The 34-year-old veteran shared with CGTN her love for her team and her determination to compete alongside her teammates throughout this season and at next year’s Winter Olympics
“From the very beginning, Team China has established itself as a dominant force in competitions like the World Cup and Winter Olympics. It’s not just about one individual. How do you feel about your team?,” CGTN’s Zheng Yibing asked her.
“It’s the result of generations of hard work by Chinese aerialists. Team China has always strived for excellence, passing down sportsmanship, skills, and experience from one generation to the next. Take my team, for example. There are three of us—my coaches and me. For every competition, we prepare multiple detailed plans, sometimes up to four. This season, we’ve worked together seamlessly and are in excellent form,” said Xue Mengtao, Freestyle Skiing Aerialist, Team China.
“You participated in the Asian Winter Games 18 years ago. Now, you’re back. What changes have you noticed from your perspective?,” CGTN’s Anchor-Reporter asked her.
“The Games have become more inclusive. This year, 34 countries are participating—a record number. The level of competition, the enthusiasm of the athletes, the services at the athletes’ village, and the performances on the field have all improved significantly. It’s a testament to how ice and snow sports have grown, attracting more followers and passionate participants. It’s truly fantastic to see,” she said.
“You started the year with a victory at the first Aerials World Cup event. What are your plans for the upcoming season and the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics?,” he asked her.
“I’ll focus on daily training and take every small step forward with dedication. With ambitious goals in mind, I’ll strive for the best performance possible. I also feel a sense of duty to guide the younger athletes on our team. My hope is that we can stand on the highest podium at the Winter Olympics in Milan,” she pointed out.
