CIBITOKE, April 7 (ABP) – The minister of justice, human rights and gender, Alfred Ahingejeje, carried out a working visit on April 3 to the headquarters of Cibitoke commune, in Bujumbura province.
The objective was to meet with litigants seeking justice. Among them, some requested the revision or annulment of their judgments, while others asked for the enforcement of rulings that had already been issued.
The minister of justice encouraged litigants to choose dialogue or mediation rather than systematically resorting to the courts. He urged them to accept decisions made by judicial bodies instead of constantly appealing. This would allow them to save time and engage in development activities.
To ensure the proper functioning of the courts and fair treatment of citizens, the head of Burundi’s justice system called on magistrates to uphold impartiality and professional ethics. Ahingejeje also urged magistrates, administrative officials, and security authorities to distance themselves from so-called intermediaries who promise even the impossible to citizens and disrupt the enforcement of judicial decisions. Most of the cases submitted to the minister of justice concern land disputes.
