BUBANZA, May 3 (ABP) – Traders at the central market of Bubanza and its surroundings say that they are facing numerous constraints that hinder the smooth running of their activities. They call for the intervention of the communal administration to remedy the situation, it was lear ned during a meeting held on Monday, April 27, 2026, by the communal administrator of Bubanza, Sabbas Niyokindi, with the traders.
Among the difficulties mentioned are the prohibition on displaying samples of goods in front of stalls to attract customers, as well as the lack of drinking water, which is causing sanitation problems.
The traders also spoke about competition from street vendors, who do not pay taxes and duties and offer lower prices. In addition, tailors and food vendors complained about the lack of space within the market.
As for traders of BRARUDI products, they explained that one of the causes of non-compliance with prices is due to limited supply; restricted to a single delivery per week, along with the obligation to include the beverage known as Heineken in their orders. These traders also complained that they paid twice for their stalls to the Burundi Revenue Authority and are requesting a refund, a check on site by ABP has revealed.
In response to all these grievances, the administrator of Bubanza commune, Mr. Niyokindi, promised to work with traders’ representatives to find solutions. He urged them to prioritize hygiene and sanitation, respect for prices, as well as the payment of taxes and duties.
It should be noted that the central market of Bubanza has more than 1,000 traders.
