The Lord Speaker greets the Chinese ambassador to Burundi

GITEGA, September 2 (ABP) – The Lord Speaker Gervais Ndirakobuca, received in audience on Friday, August 29, 2025, the Chinese Ambassador to Burundi, Zhao Jiangping, who came to deliver a congratulatory message from her counterpart, the chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China.

Following the audience, Mrs. Zhao Jiangping reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to strengthening cooperation between the two legislative institutions and to supporting Burundi in its path toward modernization.

She stated that she had come to deliver a congratulatory message from the chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China. According to Ms. Zhao, cooperation between the two countries is based on traditional friendship, political trust, and a win-win partnership.

Mrs. Zhao emphasized that the visit of the Burundian president to China, during the last summit of the forum on China-Africa cooperation, helped to elevate bilateral relations to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership.

It is within this framework, according to Mrs. Zhao, that Beijing announced the implementation of ten priority actions to support Burundi’s modernization and to back its development vision for 2040-2060.

The Chinese ambassador to Burundi highlighted the importance of regular exchanges between the national people’s congress of China and the senate of Burundi. She expressed her country’s willingness to expand this cooperation with the new legislature in order to share expertise in governance and democracy, and also to more effectively defend the interests of both peoples.

For his part, the Lord Speaker Ndirakobuca urged China to support the institution in its field missions. Such support, he said, would bring the senate closer to local realities and improve the effectiveness of its duties.

By strengthening ties between their parliamentary institutions, Burundi and China aim to build a sustainable and balanced cooperation. An alliance that is not only political, but also deeply rooted in development and the well-being of their people.
