GITEGA, Jan 6 (ABP) – The youth of Gitega province are actively participating in innovations aimed at the country’s development.
A prime example is the youth grouped within the company Development and Technology (D-Tekno), which creates concrete technological innovations to serve citizens’ well-being and national development by manufacturing various modern machines while respecting the environment.
Recently, these young people produced three modern stainless steel mills for flour processing. These machines were purchased by associations operating in the Shombo and Karusi communes of Gitega province.
D-Tekno also designed a modern machine for the Sotico factory, located in Tenga in Bujumbura province. This equipment facilitates the production of eco-friendly charcoal from biodegradable waste collected from various locations, fully aligning with the national vision of environmental protection and the valorization of local resources.
The coordinator of D-Tekno, Jean Bosco Ndayizeye, expressed his satisfaction with the positive reception of these machines by the public. He emphasized that Burundi’s path to emergence requires a change in mindset and constant innovation.
In this context, he explained, the machines produced by D-Tekno incorporate added technological value while being adapted to the local context. He noted that the stainless steel mills pose no health risks for consumers of the flour produced.
Users of these machines in Gitega province praised the youth for the technology used in their design, explaining that these tools meet the urgent needs of local communities for agro-food processing while ensuring hygiene and product quality. “These machines will effectively solve the difficulties we faced previously,” they said.
These users confirmed that the mills operate efficiently without flour dispersion and at low noise levels.
Additionally, they noted that these machines can be installed easily without heavy construction work. The rapid milling process also allows a large number of clients to be served in a short time.
The managing director of Sotico factory, Mvuyekure Sylvère, stated that the machine designed by D-Tekno has greatly improved working conditions at the factory, as the use of this local technology now allows the production of large quantities of charcoal without excessive effort, meeting market demand, whereas previously production was low due to the use of rudimentary and labor-intensive tools. He added that this innovation significantly contributes to environmental preservation, as the charcoal is produced from waste previously considered harmful, now transformed into clean, sustainable, smoke-free charcoal with high calorific value.
It should be recalled that this innovative youth recently developed a process for extracting steel from local iron ores, a project that earned them the Inkerebutsi Day award, 2025 edition.
