GITEGA/BURUNGA, May 28 (ABP) – The UPRONA party continued its electoral campaign for the communal and legislative elections on Sunday, May 25, 2025, in the expanded provinces of Gitega and Burunga. In the extended province of Gitega, the rally took place in the administrative center of the extended commune of Muramvya, with the participation of the UPRONA party chairman Olivier Nkurunziza, alongside the 2nd deputy-chairperson of the National Assembly, Abel Gashatsi, and the former 1st Vice-President of the Republic of Burundi, Yves Sahinguvu.
The Badasigana began the campaign by attending a basketball match between youth from the Ndava and Rwasazi neighborhoods, which was followed by a demonstration parade in the center of Muramvya before gathering at the multisport field in front of the national police station, a check on site revealed to ABP.
In his speech, as campaign president in the extended province of Gitega on behalf of UPRONA, Yves Sahinguvu said that visits had already been made to all villages and zones to meet future voters of their party. He indicated that the Badasigana advocate addressing challenges related, among others, to poverty, the soaring prices of basic goods, lack of foreign currency, persistent fuel shortages, and a high unemployment rate among young intellectuals.
As for the candidate for deputy in the Gitega constituency, Abel Gashatsi, former chairperson of the UPRONA party and native of Muramvya, called on party militants to respond massively to the upcoming elections. He asked them to carefully elect Badasigana candidates to become deputies and communal councilors who will have the opportunity to ensure better representation and advocate daily for the well-being of the population.
Gashatsi also urged his party militants to participate strongly in the upcoming elections. According to him, non-participation is equivalent to missing the opportunity to choose preferred leaders in matters of good governance.

For his part, UPRONA chairman Olivier Nkurunziza called on party militants and sympathizers to preserve unity and peaceful coexistence within the community.
Reacting to the challenges to be faced in the event of the party’s victory, Nkurunziza explained that UPRONA has already taken note of the demands of militants and supporters who desire positive change in various sectors of the country’s life: “UPRONA already has all the answers to meet the population’s desires,” he declared. The actions in question will be undertaken in the sectors of good governance, modern agriculture, education, the national economy, the industrial sector, ICT down to the school level, without forgetting the creation of a climate of trust in international relations, in order to bring in foreign currency through import-export products, he added.
Note that the activities related to this electoral propaganda session for the upcoming June 5th rendezvous were concluded by the presentation of the UPRONA candidates respectively for the roles of deputies and communal councilors, as well as capacity-building for militants and supporters to vote well for UPRONA, which is listed as number 2 on both the deputy and communal councilor ballots.
In the extended province of Burunga, this campaign took place in the main town of the extended Rutana commune, in the presence of the Secretary General of the UPRONA party at the national level, Jean de Dieu Niyonkuru, a check on site by ABP revealed.

In his speech, Niyonkuru, a candidate for the legislative elections representing this party in the province, stated that the sectors he promises to improve for the inhabitants of the Rutana commune, once elected, include justice, education, the economy, industry, digital communication, as well as international relations between Burundi and other countries. Niyonkuru also announced the rehabilitation of the road leading to Rutana, currently in poor condition, and promised a satisfactory supply of sugar and fuel.
He also called on all supporters to participate in the elections scheduled for June 5, 2025, and to convince members of other parties about UPRONA’s good projects so they too vote in its favor. Note that the rally concluded with the presentation of candidates for communal and legislative elections.
