MAKAMBA, April 20 (ABP) – The president of the Supreme Court, Gamaliel Nkurunziza, carried out, on Thursday, April 16, 2026, a visit to Makamba to receive the cases of litiga nts under the jurisdiction of the Makamba court of appeal and the high courts of Makamba and Nyanza, ABP observed on site.
This visit aimed to reduce travel for litigants under the jurisdiction of the Makamba court of appeal as well as the high courts of Makamba and Nyanza who wish to bring cases before the Supreme Court, it was precised.
Mr. Nkurunziza stated that the services of the various courts are gradually being brought closer to the population in or der to allow easier access to justice, while continuing their development activities. He also praised the role of local notables, who contribute to reducing the number of disputes brought before the courts.
However, the president of the Makamba court of appeal, Gloriose Nduwimana, pointed out that the newly established courts face several challenges, notably the lack of premises, office equipment, means of transportation, as well as staff.
In his welcoming speech, the chief of staff to the office of the governor of Burunga province, Etienne Mbonihankuye, indicated that the administration encourages the population to favor amicable settlement, in order to save time and devote themselves to empowerment activities.
