GITEGA, August 6 (ABP) – Burundian senators, gathered in a plenary session this Tuesday, August 5, 2025, proceeded with the election of the members of the Senate bureau for the 2025-2030 legislature. Three members were unanimously elected, following a proposal by the secretary general of the CNDD-FDD party, Révérien Ndikuriyo, who is also a member of the Senate.
At the end of the vote, Gervais Ndirakobuca was elected President of the Senate, Générose Ngendanganya, first deputy president, and Clothilde Kampimbare was elected Second deputy president. The session was chaired by the oldest senator, Joséphine Nyiraneza, in accordance with parliamentary tradition. Once elected, the new bureau members took their places on the podium to assume their duties.
In his speech, the new president of the Senate, Gervais Ndirakobuca, expressed his gratitude to the senators for the trust placed in the entire bureau. He congratulated his two vice-presidents and called on all senators to work in synergy to effectively carry out the constitutional duties entrusted to them. He also thanked his predecessor for the work accomplished and asked for his support in performing his new functions.
After the handover ceremony between the former and the new Senate officials, the senators proceeded to approve the candidacy of the new Prime Minister, submitted by the President of the Republic.
The candidate, Nestor Ntahontuye, a Hutu from the province of Buhumuza and former minister of Finance, was unanimously approved.
