BURURI, January 14th (ABP) – The members of the Sangwe cooperative of Vyuya village, in Mugamba commune, have diversified their income-generating activities. Apart from corn and potato farming, they have started mushroom farming, a check on January 9, 2025 by ABP revealed.
The leader of the said cooperative, Floribert Manayankunze, indicated that the members of the cooperative have significantly decreased from 115 to 32. The cause of these departures, according to him, is mainly the theft of the cooperative’s property by certain responsible members.
So far, he said, the cooperative has recorded a shortfall of six million BIF.
He calls on the administrative authorities to get involved so that the cooperative can repay the State’s debt and expand its scope of action. Regarding the mushroom farming, Mr. Manayankunze said that this work requires special efforts because, every day, they have to water the field of mushrooms with at least seven cans of water, while it is drawn far away.
He asked the Mugamba communal administration that water be made available.
The other concern of the members of the cooperative is that the harvest of mushrooms is done once every two weeks, however, they do not know the real price of a kilo of mushrooms and they have asked the State to set the sale price.
