CIBITOKE, October 18th (ABP) – If nothing is done as soon as possible to remedy the situation, the Rugombo-Kayanza road (RN10) is about to be cut off at the Ruseseka center on Rumvya hill, 6 km from the headquarters of the Mabayi commune, a check on the site by ABP has revealed. The culvert through which the water from a local stream and the drainage system should have passed collapsed, and the water cut another path through the road.
All that’s left is a narrow passage for small vehicles, which have to drive slowly, leading the people of Mabayi to fear that the national road will be completely cut off. Once the road is closed, the inhabitants of Mabayi will be forced to bypass it and pass through the Bukinanyana commune, in order to reach the provincial capital, other communes or the economic capital Bujumbura.
That road, which was initially tarmacked over 15 years ago, has become more impassable for vehicles, from the Mabayi communal chief town on the Nyagaseke hill to Muhungu. Jeanne Izomporera, Mabayi’s communal administrator, told ABP that the commune has no means of repairing that national road. She said she had already lodged an appeal with the Burundi Road Agency (ARB). With the rain now falling, Izomporera has renewed his plea to the Governor’s office and the ARB to rehabilitate that national road
