NTAHANGWA, December 19th (ABP) – Burundian Prime Minister Nestor Ntahontuye received in audience on Thursday, December 18, 2025, a delegation from the Viettel Group, led by its Vice President, Do Minh Phuong. The delegation came to express their gratitude to the Government of Burundi for the success achieved by Lumitel Burundi during its ten years of operation and to announce new projects aimed at boosting the digital economy.
Following the meeting, the Prime Minister’s spokesperson, Moïse Nkurunziza, stated that the head of the delegation presented three main objectives: to officially present Lumitel Burundi with a Labor Medal awarded by the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, in recognition of the company’s success; to join Lumitel Burundi in celebrating its 10th anniversary in the country; and to participate in the official launch of 5G technology. The latter two events will take place on December 19, 2025, he specified.
The Vice President of the Viettel Group stated that this is his second visit to Burundi. On this occasion, he presented the Prime Minister with the future outlook for Lumitel Burundi, including projects focused on the telecommunications network. These projects contribute actively to the digital economy and align with the 2040-2060 Vision, according to the Prime Minister’s spokesperson.
For his part, Nkurunziza continued, Prime Minister Ntahontuye thanked the Viettel Group for the win-win capital brought to Burundi. He encouraged them toward further success, particularly within the framework of envisioning other economic development projects for the country. Ntahontuye expressed his sincere gratitude to the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the recognition shown to Lumitel Burundi through a decoration that testifies to the country’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation ties, Nkurunziza indicated.

The Prime Minister welcomed the projects presented by the delegation, noting that they aim to boost the national economy. Ntahontuye reiterated the Government of Burundi’s commitment to further supporting Lumitel Burundi in successfully carrying out its activities, which serve as a testament to the win-win cooperation between the Burundian and Vietnamese people.
