The Prime Minister has received the Director General of the AfDB for the East Africa region

NTAHANGWA, April 8 (ABP) – The Burundian Prime Minister, Nestor Ntahontuye, received in audi  ence on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at the Ntare Rushatsi presidential palace, the Director General of the African Development Bank for the East Africa region, Alex Mubiru. He was accompanied by the resident representative of this financial institution in Burundi.

At the end of the meeting, the Prime Minister’s spokesperson, Moïse Nkurunziza, told the press that the meeting was part of strengthening the good cooperative relations between Burundi and the AfDB.

The discussions also made it possible to review the AfDB’s project portfolio in Burundi, covering four key sectors, namely energy, transport, agriculture, as well as the social sector, he noted.

Speaking on his turn, Alex Mubiru indicated that his visit was part of an introductory mission aimed at better understanding national priorities, with a view to strengthening AfDB support.

For his part, Prime Minister Ntahontuye thanked his guest for the visit and praised the AfDB’s commitment to supporting growth-driving sectors. He also mentioned other strategic areas, notably mining and agro-processing.

The two authorities also addressed the issue of public-private partnerships (PPPs). In this regard, the African Development Bank reaffirmed its readiness to support private investors wishing to contribute to Burundi’s development efforts in these key sectors, with a view to achieving the national vision 2040-2060.
