NTAHANGWA, March 9 (ABP) – The Prime Minister of the Republic of Burundi, Nestor Ntahontuye, received in audience the regional director of the World Health Organization (WHO) for Africa, Mr. Muhamed Yakub Janabi, on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the Ntare Rushatsi presidential palace, an onsite check by ABP has revealed.
After their meeting, the head of the office in charge of communication at the Prime Minister’s office of Burundi, Mr. Joseph Manirafasha, told the press that the discussions between the two officials focused on health-related issues, particularly the assessment of health emergencies in Burundi. He added that questions related to epidemics affecting Burundi and Africa, including COVID, Mpox, and Cholera, were also addressed.
With Burundi holding the presidency of the African Union, the two authorities also discussed the obligations for regulating pharmaceutical manufacturing plants to prevent abuses in this sensitive sector that could affect public health, according to Mr. Manirafasha.
He promised that Burundi, holding the rotating AU presidency, will do everything possible to ensure proper regulation of this sector.
Note that Regional Director Yakub also had a plan to visit a Congolese refugee camp located in Ruyigi.
