MUKAZA, May 6 (ABP) – The President of the Republic of Burundi and current chairperson of the African Union, Evariste Ndayishimiye, received in audience, on Monday, May 4, 2026, at his Kiriri palace, a Mauritanian delegation led by Lam Moctar, the minister in charge of the general secretariat of the government of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, a journalist of ABP has observed on site.
At the end of the meeting, Mr. Moctar told the press that the visit aimed to renew the fruitful bilateral relations between the Republic of Burundi and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.
The presentation of Mauritania’s candidacy for the presidency of the International Organisation of la Francophonie (OIF) to the current chairperson of the African Union and president of Burundi was also among the objectives of the delegation’s visit to Burundi, Mr. Moctar added.
The spokesperson for the president of the Republic of Burundi, Rosine Guilène Gatoni, stated that the president of the Republic of Burundi and current chairperson of the African Union promised to strongly advocate for this candidacy among other African heads of state, specifying that, as chairperson of the African Union, his objective is to help reach a consensus candidacy at the African level.
