RUTANA, October 17th (ABP) – As the period for registering Burundians to take part in the upcoming elections gets underway, the governor of Rutana province, Olivier Nibitanga, has called on the population of this province to participate massively in order to benefit from their right to vote.
He was speaking at the commemoration of the 63rd anniversary of the assassination of Burundi’s independence hero, on Monday October 14, 2024, in the chief town of Giharo commune.
Participation in the election is the right of every Burundian citizen of the required age, noted Rutana provincial governor Nibitanga, during his speech.
Nibitanga invited the population of Rutana province to participate massively in the registration process, which begins on October 22, in order to benefit from their right to vote, and reminded them that registration will be conditional on the presentation of the voter’s national identity card.
During periods such as this in the past, commission agents have appeared, charging the population looking for this card a sum higher than that set by the State. To remedy this situation, Governor Nibitanga called on the province’s inhabitants looking for identity cards to go to the main towns of the communes to carry out the operation themselves.
He also took the opportunity to call on the population of Rutana province to apply the measures advocated by the Ministry of Health to prevent monkeypox, as Rutana province has already recorded cases.
