BUTANYERERA, Oct 22 (ABP) – Coming from Bujumbura province, the Peace Torch was handed over on Monday to Butanyerera province during a ceremony held in Rwegura, at the border between the two provinces. The handover took place between the governor of Bujumbura and his counterpart from Butanyerera. After this step, the Peace Torch continued its journey to Matongo commune, where it lit up the concrete pouring works for the foundation of the new communal administrative building.

In his speech, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Burundi, Daniel Gélase Ndabirabe, stated that peace, unity, and love are possible when citizens live in harmony. He emphasized that the Peace Torch should serve as a powerful symbol guiding Burundians toward the vision the country has set for itself. He expressed gratitude to all those contributing to the construction of the building.

In her welcome address, Janvière Kanyana, the administrator of Matongo commune, stated that the building will be a four-story structure with 34 offices and will require a budget of 7 billion Burundian francs. She called on natives of the commune to support the project so it can be completed quickly.

For his part, the governor of Butanyerera, Victor Segasago, drawing on the national theme chosen for this year, encouraged local leaders to mobilize citizens around development and to join mining cooperatives scattered across various communes in the province.

The Peace Torch was then handed over to Kayanza commune, with the relay taking place between the communal administrator of Matongo and their counterpart from Kayanza.
