BUBANZA, August 6 (ABP) – The Police Force is called upon to fully carry out its duties to contribute to the realization of Vision 2040-2060. This appeal was made on Tuesday, August 5, by the President of the Republic of Burundi, Evariste Ndayishimiye, during the ceremony of the final incorporation of officer candidates from the 9th cohort, the swearing-in of police officers from the 4th cohort, and the opening of the 2024-2025 academic year at the Higher Institute of Police (ISP), located in Mitakataka, in Bubanza commune (Northwest Burundi).
According to the director of the ISP, Police Major Pamphile Mpabansi, a total of 206 officer candidates were officially incorporated, while 18 police officers were sworn in. The Institute currently has 451 students. The ISP offers initial training, academic education, as well as advanced training programs.
Major Mpabansi requested support from the President of the Republic for the construction of housing for teachers, the expansion of student residences, the establishment of a virtual library, the continuation of rehabilitation work at ENAPO, and the provision of drinking water for the institution.
For his part, the Inspector General of Police, Police General Major Joseph Ninteretse, urged police officers on duty to demonstrate discipline, respect for the law, impartiality, and to be exemplary role models in their daily lives.
The Head of State, in turn, emphasized the crucial role of the police in the context of the new era Burundi is undergoing, where security is paramount. He invited police leadership to adapt their organization to the new administrative division, in order to better ensure peace and security across the country.
It is worth noting that, on behalf of the National Police, the Inspector General offered the President of the Republic two heifers as a gift, respectively named “Yarukinzo” (shield) and “Yamugisha” (luck).
