MUYINGA, December 19th (ABP) – The Governor of Buhumuza Province, Denise Ndaruhekere, received on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, in Muyinga commune, the Acting Director General of the Burundi News Agency (ABP), Esper-Noël Ngendakumana. He was accompanied by the Administrative and Financial Director, Joline Musabeyezu, and the Head of the Agency’s Correspondents’ Network, Cyrille Niyongabo.

The purpose of the meeting was to officially introduce ABP journalists to the new communal authorities of Buhumuza Province, following the country’s new administrative reorganization of provinces.

The Governor of Buhumuza Province praised the ABP for its work within her jurisdiction, particularly in disseminating reliable and credible information. She urged the agency’s leadership to continue supervising and supporting their staff to ensure effective monitoring of activities across the province.

For his part, the Acting Director General of the ABP introduced the three journalists working in the province to the Governor. He gave assurances that the ABP would spare no effort to ensure that local information is accurately relayed wherever it operates, with a particular focus on highlighting the voices and activities of citizens.

The ABP officials also visited the communes of Muyinga and Gisagara, where administrators advocated for greater decentralization of the agency. They proposed stationing one correspondent per commune to ensure better availability and maximum coverage.

The administrators of these communes highlighted communication challenges in certain areas. For instance, the administrator of Gisagara commune, Japhet Nzirubusa, revealed a lack of telephone networks and internet connectivity, specifically in the hills of the Bumba zone and several other hills bordering Tanzania, including Buyongwe. He also noted the inability to receive radio signals from stations broadcasting within Burundi.

In response, the Acting Director General of the ABP, Esper-Noël Ngendakumana, promised to relay these concerns to the Ministry of Communication and Media for resolution.

It is worth noting that the ABP’s visit continued this Thursday, December 18, in the communes of Cankuzo, Ruyigi, Gisuru and Butaganzwa.
