MUKAZA, Oct 1 (ABP) – The National Institute of Public Health (INSP) concluded on Friday, September 26, 2025, the ceremonies marking its 25th anniversary.
On this occasion, the Director General of the INSP, Joseph Nyandwi, expressed his pride in the progress made by the institution, while announcing ambitious plans for the future. “We aim for complete autonomy in medical testing. No Burundian should have to go abroad for a diagnosis. Everything will be done here, in Burundi, with our own equipment and our own experts,” he stated.
Participants had the opportunity to visit the INSP laboratory, which is equipped with state-of-the-art tools for the screening and diagnosis of numerous diseases. In this regard, the Director General pointed out some ongoing challenges, including delays in public procurement processes, which hinder the supply of essential medical equipment, as well as difficulties in replacing broken-down machines.
He also took the opportunity to call on the institution’s staff to be more involved in maintaining infrastructure. “Everyone can contribute in their own way, whether by planting trees or renovating the building walls. The INSP must not only be efficient, but also reflect a positive image. People come and go, but the institution remains,” he emphasized.
According to Aloys Nyabenda, the advisor for social and cultural affairs at the presidency, the achievements of the INSP are commendable, as is its crucial role in improving the health of Burundians. “The dream of seeing our country carry out its own medical tests is gradually becoming a reality, thanks to the commitment of the INSP,” he said. He also congratulated the young graduates who received their diplomas during the ceremony, highlighting their good reputation in the field and their exemplary professionalism.
It is worth noting that members of the staff, as well as directors who have been working at the INSP since its inception, received certificates of merit and honor in recognition of their commitment and loyalty to the institution.
