NTAHANGWA, December 9 (ABP) – The President of the Republic of Burundi, Evariste Ndayishimiye, returned on Saturday, December 6, 2025, from the United States of America. He had been invited by his American counterpart, Donald Trump, to take part, as an observer, in the signing ceremonies of the historic peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda.

The Presidential Spokesperson, Rosine Guilène Gatoni, stated that during these ceremonies, the American President solemnly thanked the Burundian Head of State and congratulated him for his commitment, contribution, and efforts to make peace and security a reality in eastern DRC, and also for making that historic day possible.

Gatoni noted that, in his speech during the ceremonies, President Ndayishimiye reiterated his commitment to spare no effort to ensure that peace and security become a reality, and expressed his hope that this agreement would come to fruition.

She also explained that these ceremonies provided an ideal opportunity for the Burundian Head of State to meet with his American counterpart, Donald Trump. President Ndayishimiye also met with the United States Deputy Secretary of State, Christopher Landau, to discuss prospects for cooperation between the USA and Burundi. They exchanged views on development projects across key sectors, including mining, trade, economic cooperation, and migration, Gatoni said. Their discussions also addressed the security situation in the region, where Mr. Landau, on behalf of the U.S. government, reaffirmed the trust, confidence, and appreciation the U.S. government has for the Burundian President in ensuring that peace and security prevail in the region.

The presidential spokesperson further indicated that the President of the Republic of Burundi held a meeting with American investors interested in bringing their investments to Burundi to support the country’s Vision 2040-2060. He met with a delegation from Lifezone Metals, a company operating in the mining sector, which expressed its interest in exploiting the mining sector, particularly nickel in Musongati.

According to Gatoni, the Burundian leader also met with a delegation from Anzana Electric Group, already present in Burundi through a public-private partnership project, the Weza power project. They discussed the progress of this project and future prospects. The founder and director of Anzana Electric Group, Brian Kelly, expressed appreciation for the good collaboration with the Burundian government, Gatoni added.
