The Head of State has returned from Equatorial Guinea

Return of the presidential couple

BUJUMBURA, March 10th (ABP) – The presidential couple returned on Friday March 7, 2025, from Equatorial Guinea for a working visit from March 6 to 7, 2025.

In a press release, the President of the Republic of Burundi, Evariste Ndayishimiye, said that he was received by his counterpart of Equatorial Guinea Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, who is at the same time Chairperson of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) of which Burundi is a member.

The Burundian number one leader said that the meeting with the President of Equatorial Guinea focused on peace and stability in the region. As the President of Equatorial Guinea is at the chairman of ECCAS, the Burundian Head of State went there to know his position on the conflict in eastern DRC. According to Ndayishimiye, he and his counterpart were pleased to see that the international and regional community are now mobilized and to help ensure that there is a peaceful resolution of the conflict in eastern DRC.

He explained to the President of ECCAS that the conflict in eastern DRC is dangerous because, he said: “if we are not careful, it risks spreading throughout the region”. He cited the conflicts in the Central African Republic, South Sudan, and the DRC. The President of the Republic of Burundi lauded the fact that with his counterpart from Equatorial Guinea, they believe that it is possible to resolve the conflict in eastern DRC peacefully.

Secondly, the Burundian number one leader said that they discussed issues of common interest between Burundi and Equatorial Guinea. Burundi needs internet; hence partnerships are necessary with this country.

On the sidelines of the visit, the First Lady of the Republic of Burundi, Angeline Ndayishimiye was received by the First Lady of Equatorial Guinea, Constancia Mangue Nsue Okomo. Their discussions focused on issues of common interest, including establishing relations between the Bonne Action – Umugiraneza – Foundation of the First Lady of Burundi and the Constancia Mangue Foundation of the First Lady of Equatorial Guinea.
