NTAHANGWA, April 16 (ABP) – The Head of State, Evariste Ndayishimiye, received in aud ience on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at the Ntare Rushatsi presidential palace, the outgoing representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Burundi, Judicaël Elidje, who had come to bid him farewell.
The outgoing UNFPA representative in Burundi indicated that it was an appropriate moment for him to come and thank the Burundian leader for the multifaceted support that he and his government have provided to this organization.
During this audience, he added, several issues of common interest were discussed, notably those related to the promotion of sexual and reproductive health for Burundian women, data from the general census of population, housing, agriculture and livestock, youth-related challenges, as well as, more broadly, issues related to the development of Burundi.
This audience was an exceptional opportunity not only to congratulate and commend the leadership of the Head of State, reflected through the 2040-2060 vision, he continued, but also and above all to renew UNFPA’s commitment to continue working alongside the Burundian people for their well-being. It was also an opportunity to seek the support of the Head of State for the continued backing of his government for this organization, he concluded.
For his part, the Head of State, Evariste Ndayishimiye, congratulated the outgoing UNFPA representative, Judicaël Elidje, for his good collaboration with the Burundian government in the implementation of numerous projects, revealed Rosine Guilène Gatoni, spokesperson for the President of the Republic.
The Burundian leader emphasized, among other things, UNFPA’s contribution to the successful conduct of the general census of population, housing, agriculture and livestock, in the treatment of obstetric fistulas, as well as in job creation for young people by supporting the Youth Economic Empowerment and Employment Program (PAEEJ).
UNFPA has also contributed to the tourism sector and continues to support the supervising ministry in the development of various tourist sites in order to promote them to foreigners via social media, she specified.
The Head of State also wished Judicaël Elidje every success in his new duties and expressed the hope that UNFPA will continue to support Burundi in achieving the 2040-2060 vision, she concluded.
