NTAHANGWA, August 12 (ABP) – The Guido Maria Conforti parish of Kamenge organizes an event called “summer for Children” aimed at supporting pupils during the long holiday. The supervisor of those activities, Mrs. Victoire Ciza indicated that the supervised pupils are those of primary school and they are taught various vocational skills.
According to Mrs. Ciza, the participating pupils had to pay a registration fee of 3000 BIF, which is considered affordable for the parents of those children. She added that the purpose of the event is to prevent children from falling into delinquency, pointing out that many parents let their children roam aimlessly during the holidays, instead of helping them stay productively engaged.
The vocational skills being taught include sewing, carpentry, and electricity for primary school pupils, while preschool children engage in various crafts. The program also includes Bible teachings, lessons on health and hygiene, and charitable work, according to Mrs. Ciza.
Concerning the trainers, Mrs. Ciza said that they are mainly graduates and post-basic school pupils who have received training in different fields. They are not paid, except that a small token of appreciation is planned at the end of the event to encourage them.
For the parents interviewed near the parish, they said that the activities are extremely valuable for their children. They noted that the program positively impacts their children’s behavior, as they learn to pray, sew, and make other items thanks to the trades they learn.
They expressed deep gratitude to Father Luigi Vitella, an Italian priest of the Guido Maria Conforti parish, who initiated the program. The 2025 edition of “Summer for Children” began on July 14 and will end on August 14, with over 2,450 students participating.
