MWARO, March 11 (ABP) – The communal education department of Mwaro, in collaboration with the association of retirees of Gasumo, organized on Thursday, March 5, a quiz competition intended for 9th-grade students and those of the post-basic level of Muyebe High School. This activity was part of efforts to improve learners’ skills in several fields.
In his opening speech, the head of the communal education department in Mwaro, Richard Irakoze, indicated that this project aims to stimulate academic excellence and encourage and highlight young talents in the Mwaro school commune. According to this official, this initiative also represents a demonstration of the community’s commitment to education.

Mr. Irakoze praised the initiative of the retirees who decided to place their knowledge and time at the service of the youth of the school commune.
He specified that the fields selected for this competition include literature, science and the environment, information and communication technologies (ICT), as well as general knowledge.
He wished the participants great success, while saying he was convinced that the said project will help reveal budding geniuses in schools. He also invited members of the association to extend that initiative to other schools, believing that it will contribute to the progress of the education sector.
To the students, he recommended redoubling their efforts in order to improve their academic performance and obtain good results.
The representative of the Association of Retirees of Gasumo, Jean-Marie Budiriganya, for his part indicated that their objective is to promote research and the culture of excellence in order to help improve school results which, in recent years, have been reflected in poor rankings in national tests.
The students who distinguished themselves during the quiz competition received notebooks and other school supplies.
