MWARO, January 13th (ABP) – The First Vice-President of the Senate, Dénise Ndadaye, paid a working visit to Ruramba village, located in the commune of Kayokwe, Mwaro province, on Thursday, January 9, 2025, a check by ABP revealed.

The purpose of the visit was to inquire about the state of the local corn fields, which have not yet reached maturity, but have been destroyed. The owners of the fields indicated that they had received money from Stève Niyungeko, a member of the diaspora living in the Netherlands who has a project to multiply and sell red onions abroad. Dénise Ndadaye met with the team in charge of operating the 68-acre plot. After visiting the devastated corn fields, she gave advice to the population where she stressed that the project itself is beneficial for the country, while deploring the major irregularities in its implementation. She asked those responsible for this loss to think about compensation, given that the government subsidized seeds as well as organo-mineral fertilizers.

It was the local administration that alerted because despite the payment of money, Burundian culture prohibits uprooting a field of crops except in the case of disease.

However, Niyungeko, at the origin of the project of multiplication and sale of red onions, affirmed that each corn stalk had been bought at 300 BIF.

During that trip, Ndadaye also took the opportunity to invite the population of Mwaro to fight with determination against any destructive idea, particularly as the elections are drawing near.
