CANKUZO, Feb 16 (ABP) – Burundi has assets that favor the eradication of malnutrition. This was announced by the permanent executive secretary of the multisectoral platform for food security and nutrition (SEP/PMSAN), Dr. Célestin Sibomana, during a meeting with the administrative authorities of Buhumuza province and members of the Buhumuza platform (PPSAN) on the structuring of this platform in accordance with the administrative division.
The permanent executive secretary of SEP/PMSAN, Dr. Célestin Sibomana, recalled that malnutrition constitutes a problem for economic growth because the brain of a malnourished child does not develop normally, and therefore the individual will not be able to contribute to development. However, according to him, given Burundi’s potential, it is possible to reverse the situation. Dr. Célestin called for the promotion of exemplary local leadership. “Burundi has many assets: a river basin and abundant rainfall. But one may wonder why this nutritional problem continues to be observed. We will strengthen coordination activities to ensure synergy among the various stakeholders. We are sure that when there is local ownership to channel efforts, we will reverse the trend,” said the permanent executive secretary of PMSAN.
Dr. Célestin called for strengthening the synergy of different stakeholders at the local level in order to achieve this.
On the side of the provincial administration of Buhumuza, the chief of staff of the governor of the province, Mr. Salvator Bigirimana, pleaded for the decentralization of this platform down to the zonal level in order to achieve results. Note that SEP/PMSAN, on this occasion, donated a laptop computer to the platform at the level of Buhumuza province (PPSAN) to facilitate its functioning.
