BUJUMBURA, May 28 (ABP) – The ruling party CNDD-FDD continued its election campaign in the extended province of Bujumbura, as part of the campaign for the legislative and communal elections scheduled for June 5.
In the new communes of Cibitoke and Mabayi, the rally took place on Monday, May 26, 2025 and was led by the CNDD-FDD party’s Secretary General Réverien Ndikuriyo, accompanied by Prime Minister Gervais Ndirakobuca, a native of the former province of Cibitoke, as well as members of parliament from the new Bujumbura constituency, candidates for the upcoming legislative and communal elections, high-ranking officials and national leaders.
In his speech, the Secretary General of the party recalled that the CNDD-FDD has now reached 20 years of maturity. He emphasized that Burundians need to be united in order to build their nation. He praised the government’s recent decision to allow young Burundians to undertake military service to form a standby force that can be called upon to defend the country when needed.
According to Ndikuriyo, the CNDD-FDD has maintained the same political agenda since 2005, which continues from one term to the next.
Speaking about the upcoming double ballot, the Secretary General urged the Bagumyabanga and other citizens to vote, with a minimum of 95% support, for the party’s candidates. This renewal of the party in power, he said, will allow for the continuation of the fight against poverty in unity, toward the implementation of the 2040–2060 vision.
In Muhuta commune of Bujumbura province, the ruling party held a rally on Saturday, May 24, on the football pitch of Magara.
According to the CNDD-FDD secretary in Bujumbura province, Alexandre Ngoragoza, peace and security prevail in this province made up of 95 zones. Bagumyabanga, along with other citizens, are aware of the positive changes that have taken place since the CNDD-FDD came to power which, he said, makes it easier to win the legislative and communal elections.
The provincial secretary of the party Alexandre Ngoragoze, called for vigilance and discipline. “Bagumyabanga, be vigilant but remain calm like sleeping lions,” he declared. He reminded them that the CNDD-FDD is a political party rooted in the country’s historical journey, forged through struggle and resilience, and not a party born of circumstance. He also encouraged the militants to remain united, committed, and faithful to their convictions, whatever the circumstances.
Marcien Manirakiza, deputy communal secretary of the CNDD-FDD in Muhuta, expressed his satisfaction with the peaceful atmosphere in the commune and the population’s involvement in community development activities. He emphasized that the campaign is unfolding calmly and reaffirmed the citizens’ determination to participate massively in the elections. The local motto “Ihute tubenurire” was mentioned to illustrate this spirit of mobilization.
Ngoragoze stated that the party’s goal is to get more than 95% of the votes in this province. To achieve this, he called on party members to carry out grassroots campaigns, particularly by explaining the party’s actions, its contribution to peace, and its vision for development. He stressed the importance of maintaining security and social cohesion.
Among the priorities mentioned were strengthening peace, justice, decentralization, modernization of infrastructure, support for entrepreneurship through cooperatives, improvement of health services, and promotion of the educational program “Turere Uburundi.”
MP candidate Ezéchiel Nibigira, who was present at the event, reminded voters of practical guidelines related to the election, particularly the importance of arriving early at polling stations. “Be there by 6 a.m.,” he advised.
