GITEGA, April 24 (ABP) – The party National Council for the Defense of Democracy – Forces for the Defense of Democracy (CNDD-FDD) held, on Thurs day, April 23, 2026, in Gitega, the opening of a three-day prayer dedicated to self-evaluation and conversion, an activity now rooted in the traditions of this political formation.
This crusade began with a mass celebrated at the Magarama Catholic parish, in Gitega province, by Monsignor Bonaventure Nahimana, Archbishop of Gitega.
This activity saw the participation of the president of the Republic and chairman of the council of elders of the CNDD-FDD party, Evariste Ndayishimiye, accompanied by his wife, Angeline Ndayishimiye.
Several high-ranking personalities also took part in this prayer, notably the secretary-general of the said party, Révérien Ndikuriyo, members of the council of elders, senior party officials as well as state authorities, including the Prime Minister, parliamentarians and other administrative officials. Representatives of various religious denominations, civil society and political actors were also present.

In his homily, Monsignor Nahimana invoked the Holy Spirit to grant strength and wisdom to leaders so they may guide the people well. He urged senior officials of the country, who are from the CNDD-FDD party, to serve as role models in carrying out their duties, especially since they are currently responsible for various sectors of national life. He also called on them to demonstrate exemplary conduct and to govern with fairness, without favoritis m. “Those in charge of institutions must carry out their missions with integrity, in order to prevent anything that could harm the nation,” he noted.
Monsignor Nahimana recommended that the faithful contribute to the protection of public property and support the authorities in their development efforts.
The Archbishop of Gitega finally recalled that giving thanks to God goes hand in hand with asking for forgiveness, emphasizing that these three days constitute a privileged opportunity for self-evaluation and conversion.
Note that after the mass, activities continued in the afternoon at Ingoma Stadium in Gitega. The secretary-general of the ruling party welcomed the Head of State there for the official opening of this gathering, marked by an address for the occasion.
