NGOZI, October 29th (ABP) – The director of the Provincial Bureau of Environment, Agriculture and Livestock (BPEAE) of Ngozi, Émile Kubwimana, urges farmers to prepare for the 2024-2025 rice growing season.
He is already pleased that the crops of the 2024 growing season C that occupy the swamps intended for rice will reach maturity very soon. These are mainly beans, soybeans, lean crops, corn but also market garden crops. Kubwimana finds that while waiting for the harvest, rice farmers can start sowing rice in seedbeds as early as November 15 to have seeds in the desired quantity and quality on time. For the director of BPEAE, the whole package must be put in place for the success of the rice campaign. The various swamps usually cultivated with rice must be prepared accordingly for the transplanting which generally begins with the month of December to be a total success. For this, agricultural supervisors and especially instructors are invited to think about it already and to decide on strategies for success.
For the land occupied by rice of season C, it is time for the second and last manuring. And these lands must also quickly prepare for the December campaign especially in the swamps with high supervision such as Nyacijima, Naripfu, Namugoyi, etc.
Note that the province is currently among the provinces that produce a lot of rice in the country.
The PRODEFI, PRASAB and PRODEMA projects have made it possible to develop several thousand hectares of swamps in the Ngozi, Gashikanwa, Tangara and Marangara districts which give a satisfactory production of rice. After the closure of those projects, their achievements in rice growing are capitalized by the BPEAE in collaboration with rice cooperatives and the administration.
