NGOZI, October 11th (ABP) – Farmers in the Ngozi commune are delighted with the progress of the 2025 A cropping season. The rains have fallen in abundance, and the soil is more than ready for sowing. Ploughing is almost complete.
According to some farmers they met on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at the storage shed of the Provincial Office of the Environment, Agriculture and Livestock, fertilizer was still the only obstacle to sowing.
We’re in the process of collecting FOMI fertilizer and dolomite to start sowing maize and beans that week,” insisted Rehema Baragunzwa, a farmer from the Rusuguti village in commune Ngozi.
Clearly, the distribution of organo-mineral fertilizers was taking place in absolute calm. Ngozi zone distributor Gilbert Manirakiza reported that his warehouse had 85.7 tons of FOMI Imbura, 10 tons of FOMI Totahaza or urea, 5 tons of KCL and 90 tonnes of dolomite. He assured us that the entire quantity ordered by the Ngozi zone, comprising 9 villages, is available in the Ngozi provincial stockpile. The only challenge remains the fuel needed to transport the fertilizers to the zone stockpiles.
As for PAN 53 maize seed, which is not available in sufficient quantities, BPEAE Ngozi claims that there are other varieties that give comparable production. BPEAE Ngozi director Emile Kubwimana recommends that farmers replace PAN53 with the Bazoka variety, for example, which has proved its worth in the province in the past.
