BUBANZA, January 15th (ABP) – Teachers in the Bubanza County and District (North-West) are called upon to make positive changes and improve the success rate in their respective schools for the second term.

This appeal was made on Monday, January 13, 2025, during the meeting that the Provincial Director of Education (DPE), Claude Badugaritse, held for them, with a view to discussing the causes of the low success rate observed in that county of Bubanza, and related solutions.

The Bubanza County alone has 9 schools out of 13 in the entire Bubanza district. The Provincial Director of Education (DPE) indicated that this county is in good working conditions, because, he said, it does not have a lack of teaching like other counties. Moreover, most teachers live near the workplace, like schoolchildren.

Nevertheless, according to the DPE Bubanza, it is incomprehensible that the success rate remains low.

For example, for the 2022/2023 school year, the Bubanza County occupied 3rd place out of 4 counties in total, and for the 2023/2024 school year, the county succeeded with a rate of less than 60% in the national contest for grade 9. Some of the causes, which were mentioned during the meeting, include poor collaboration between principals and their subordinates, teachers’ lateness and absences, non-preparation of lessons to be given by some teachers, those who spend a lot of time on social media during classes, houses of films that distract schoolchildren, matches that take a lot of time and others.

Mr. Badugaritse asked the teaching staff of the county to change positively for this second term in order to increase the success rate. He asked them not to be distracted by the elections scheduled for this year.

It is worth noting that Bubanza province has set the goal of being among the top 5 in the national tests of this school year.
