Teachers’ salaries to be paid soon

GITEGA, November 7th (ABP) – Two ministers, namely the Minister of National Education and Scientific Research, Mr. François Havyarimana, and the Minister of the Civil Service, Labor and Employment, Mr. Vénuste Muyabaga, met on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at the social school in Gitega (central Burundi). Vénuste Muyabaga, met on Tuesday November 5, 2024, at the Gitega social school (in the center of the country), with the provincial directors of education and the provincial branches of the Ministry of the Civil Service, Labor and Employment, to discuss problems linked to the payment of salaries to active teachers, on the one hand, and the recruitment of new teachers, on the other.

At the end of the meeting, held behind closed doors, Minister Havyarimana delivered the conclusions of those discussions.

With regard to the first point, he reported that the participants had noted that some teachers’ files were at provincial level, others at ministry level, adding that most of those files were complete. One or other document is missing to enable the Ministry of the Civil Service, Labor and Employment to process those files and reinstate the teachers concerned in their rights, he added.

To remedy that situation, he indicated that the participants in the meeting had agreed to forward to the Ministry of National Education and Scientific Research all the files that are at provincial level before the end of the current week, and to complete any missing files before the same deadline.

If it turns out that certain documents need to be issued by the ministry responsible for employment,” he continued, ”it was agreed that a request from the ministry responsible for national education should reach the ministry responsible for the civil service, labor and employment before the end of the current week.

Minister Havyarimana added that all files that are complete must reach the Ministry of Civil Service, Labor and Employment by the end of the same week.

As for the recruitment of new teachers, the meeting agreed that the Ministry of National Education and Scientific Research should prepare the recruitment plan during the course of that week, and then forward it to the Ministry of the Civil Service, Labor and Employment before the end of the current week.

Minister Havyarimana also indicated that the Ministry of the Civil Service, Labor and Employment is committed to communicating the date of submission of job applications no later than next week.
