HARBIN, February 13th (AMSP/CGTN) – – 21-year-old Singaporean short track skater Pok Jing Ying Alyssa reflects on her experience at the Harbin Winter Asian Games, sharing the challenges, memorable athletes, and the spirit of the competition that transcends borders.
She pointed out that the Chinese and South Korean skaters definitely impressed her. “They are really good. Clearly, they’re very dominant in the sport. I’m actually very impressed about the Chinese fans. It’s really crazy. They really screamed their hearts out for their skaters. Even though I’m not a Chinese skater, when I hear the crowd just shouting the Chinese skaters’ names, it’s really amazing. Actually, I feel a bit emotional as well. It reminds you how proud it is to represent your country,” she said.
She also expressed her insight about Harbin. “I think it’s quite pretty. I think outside of the hotel, there’s a lot of ice sculptures of the different winter sports. I’ve never seen them. Clearly, Singapore is a hot country, so we don’t get ice sculptures a lot. So I think that was really impressive how it doesn’t melt. It’s quite a rare experience. The temperature here is also very cold,” she testified.
According to her, Asian Winter games mean a lot her. “This is considered a major game. This is only my second major game. So I think it’s pretty amazing. It’s my first time at Asian Games. So I think to be competing here with the high-level skaters, I think it’s a good experience. I think it’s also kind of inspiring to see how much more I have to go to be able to compete with them, and be at their level. I think it’s a fun experience, when exchanging the country pins with players from different countries and making new friends. That’s really great,” she said.
