NGOZI, January 7th (ABP) – Several hectares of various crops were destroyed on Sunday, January 5, 2025, on Renga hill, Marangara commune, Ngozi province, by torrential rain mixed with violent winds. Hail deposits were still visible in the early hours of Monday.
All kinds of crops were affected. Maize, beans, manioc, sweet potatoes, vegetables and so on, were all affected.
The administrator of the Marangara commune, Mme Goreth Nshimirimana, said that vast areas of crops had been destroyed.
She called for emergency aid. The Marangara commune is not in a position to assist the entire hillside. The communes of Kiremba and Marangara are classified as highly vulnerable to disasters linked to climate change, especially hail.
