KAYANZA, Feb 16 (ABP) – A quantity of approximately five thousand five hundred (5,500) liters of fuel seized through fraud, with an estimated value of 22,300,000 Burundian francs, was officially sold to the population on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at the provincial police station of Kayanza, Kayanza commune, in Butanyerera province, a check on site by ABP has revealed.
This activity was chaired by the advisor to the governor of Butanyerera province in charge of political and legal affairs, Mr. Nikoyagize Cyriaque, together with the provincial commissioner of Kayanza. He indicated that this action is part of the mission set by Butanyerera province to combat all forms of fraud.
Mr. Nikoyagize specified that in addition to this quantity, other approximately 2,000 liters had been officially sold last week in Ngozi commune, for an estimated value of more than 8,000,000 Burundian francs. According to this provincial official, a total amount exceeding 30,000,000 Burundian francs has just been collected to be deposited into the public treasury account.
He added that the individuals apprehended in these cases of fraud already have their files forwarded to the judiciary so that they may answer for their actions. Mr. Nikoyagize took this opportunity to warn perpetrators of smuggling, calling on them to put an end to this practice, which he described as a scourge hindering the country’s development.
He finally urged citizens to report any form of fraud, emphasizing that such practices compromise national development efforts.
