GITEGA, August 18 (ABP) – The association FVS-Amie des enfants officially launched on Thursday, August 14, 2025, in Gishubi commune of Gitega province (the political capital and center of Burundi), a nationwide campaign to distribute school kits to orphans and vulnerable children from disadvantaged backgrounds in areas where the association operates, a check on site by ABP has revealed.
The Executive Director of FVS-Amie des enfants, Baselisse Ndayisaba, noted that despite economic crises that have reduced donations, FVS has innovated by creating local “Nawe Nuze” groups in collines and communes. She stated that these groups save money and purchase school supplies for vulnerable children, to ensure every child can attend school, given that the association is committed to promoting education for all, especially for orphans and vulnerable children.
She indicated that this year, over 2,200 local associations will support more than 125,000 orphans and vulnerable children across the country, with over 48,000 beneficiaries in Gitega province alone. Among these, Gishubi commune has 15,117 beneficiaries.
According to her, this success was made possible thanks to community mobilization and the consistent support of FVS and its partners. For this reason, the association encourages everyone to get involved in mutual aid groups to sustain this positive momentum.
The representative of the local “Nawe Nuze” groups in Gishubi praised the strong collaboration between these groups and the local administration. She also thanked the members of the associations who give selflessly so that support activities for orphans and vulnerable children can continue.
For this reason, she suggested that FVS-Amie des enfants increase the number of spots reserved for orphans and vulnerable children at the model school of Matana. She took the opportunity to assure the administration that the Nawe Nuze groups will do everything possible to contribute to national development through education.
Joël Nishimwe, who is supported by the FVS association and is also a student at the Matana model school, sincerely thanked the association for its support to orphaned and vulnerable students, which allows them to continue their studies without difficulty. He called on the beneficiaries of the school kits to use them properly, reminding them that in the future, they too will be the ones helping other children in similar situations.
The administrator of Gishubi commune, Apollinaire Baryana, also thanked the association and local groups for their assistance to orphans and vulnerable children to help them stay in school. He stated that the commune’s administration will continue to work closely with associations and partners contributing to the development of the commune.
