MAKAMBA, Nov 22 (ABP) – The governor of Makamba province, Tantine Ncutinamagara, indicated on Thursday, November 20, 2024, in Buhema village, Mugeni County of Kayogoro district, that the protection of the banks of the Mulagarazi River and its no man’s land will prevent the river from deviating from its bed. She said this after the bamboo planting work in the no man’s land of the Mulagarazi River.

Governor Ncutinamagara also stressed that no one is allowed to do field work in the 25 m area from the Mulagarazi bank as stipulated in the water code in force in Burundi. According to her, this will stabilize the banks of the Malagarazi River to force the latter to carry part of Burundi towards the United Republic of Tanzania.

She instructed the administrative officials and the environmental protection services to ensure that this measure is implemented.

For the coordinator of the Roots and Shoots Burundi organization, David Ninteretse, a good result will be recorded when those bamboos are maintained and protected.

This Roots and Shoots Burundi organization, which deals with environmental protection, received funding from the Pascale Bibidukikije project supported by the European Union and has produced bamboos and agroforestry trees that can be planted over a 10 km stretch.

Note that the members involved in the “Ewe Burundi Urambaye” programme have joined forces with the population of Buhema in the bamboo planting activity.
