KIREMBA, Sept 30 (ABP) – The local representation of the CNDD-FDD party in Gakere zone, Kiremba commune, Butanyerera province, organized a ceremony on Saturday, September 27, 2025, to celebrate the progress made in promoting avocado cultivation.
The event was honored by the presence of the CNDD-FDD provincial secretary in Butanyerera, Ferdinand Habimana. The party’s zone secretary stated that since April 2024, a total of 257,637 avocado trees have been planted. Each household was encouraged to plant 20 avocado trees. The target is to reach 400,000 avocado trees in the zone by December 2025.
The communal administrator of Kiremba, Pascal Habiyakare, congratulated the zone for the significant strides made in promoting avocado cultivation.
For his part, the CNDD-FDD provincial secretary in Butanyerera, Ferdinand Habimana, declared that avocado farming is one of the activities that will enable Burundi to rapidly achieve its national development vision.
Based on the more than 250,000 avocado trees already planted in the zone, he projected that by 2030, a single tree could produce 200 kg, totaling 50 million kilos, an output estimated to be worth 80 billion Burundian francs. According to Habimana, the recent integration of avocado farming into export crops will bring three major benefits to the country: inflow of foreign currency, enhanced international recognition of Burundi, and increased household economic growth.

In Butanyerera province, over 13 million avocado trees have already been planted, according to the same provincial secretary. The main objective is for the province to be able to export one million tons of avocados per year by 2030, generating one million dollars in revenue.
Residents who have fully embraced the project expressed appreciation for the follow-up provided in avocado farming, particularly through the free provision of technicians who assist with grafting and maintenance. They believe that once the harvest begins, it will significantly contribute to improving their families’ living standards.
