NYANZA, April 14 (ABP) – Rice seed producers in Nyanza commune, Burunga province, called for th e decentralization of the services of the National Office for Seed Control and Certification (ONCCS), in order to benefit from better technical support.
According to Aline Niyonizigiye, this measure would make it possible to improve crop monitoring and strengthen the quality of the seeds produced. She indicated that producers face a lack of experts in phytosanitary matters. “We observe plant diseases, but it is difficult to obtain a quick diagnosis,” she explained.
She added that the absence of specialists complicates crop management, as some agronomists do not always have the necessary skills to identify diseases and propose appropriate treatments.
The producers believe that the presence of ONCCS services at the local level would facilitate access to technical expertise and help improve agricultural yields. They therefore called on the authorities to bring these services closer to production areas in order to effectively support the seed sector.
