The Prime Minister at an audience with the US Ambassador to Burundi

BUJUMBURA, March 7th (ABP) – Burundi Prime Minister, Gervais Ndirakubuca, received Lisa Peterson, the United States Ambassador to Burundi, in audience on Tuesday 4 March 2025.

At the end of the audience, Peterson said that their discussions focused on the country’s economy and the impact of refugees fleeing the fighting in eastern Congo.

As for Moise Nkurunziza, the prime minister’s spokesman, the two senior figures discussed the national committee to combat human trafficking, where Ambassador Peterson stressed that the US embassy was committed to supporting the health sector, especially in the fight against AIDS.  According to Nkurunziza, their discussions also touched on security in the Republic of Congo, where the Prime Minister informed the audience that the Burundian government had initiated a dialogue with stakeholders working in the refugee reception sector in Burundi, so that refugees could live peacefully in Burundi.

The two high-level personalities concluded their exchanges, agreeing that they will continue to work together to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Burundi and other countries.
