President Xi Wraps up Visit to Macao

December 23rd (AMSP/CGTN) – – Senior officials and representatives from across sectors on Friday gathered at the Macau International Airport for the send-off.

The president’s visit marks a new chapter for the city, after swearing in the sixth-term government.

Former top judge Sam Hou-fai will lead Macao for the next five years, with a focus on economic diversification.

President Xi has laid out his expectations: embrace reforms, attract top talent, and increase its global presence.

He urged Macao to develop new industries and align with national strategies, including the Greater Bay Area blueprint and the Belt and Road Initiative.

President Xi praised Macao as a “jewel of the motherland” and a successful model of “One Country, Two Systems,” a principle he says will remain unchanged for the long term.

But the president also pointed to challenges ahead. While Macao remains stable, the internal and external landscape is undergoing “profound changes”. He called on the new administration to put people first, and to “never be complacent.”
